I believe in the transformative nature of art. When the Cinema at 41 Tamal Vista in Corte Madera closed in 2020, I brought together a collective of artists and experts to find a way to bring the space back to life as an art gallery and community event space.
Sadly, the Cinema was heavily vandalized in January 2023 and has since fallen into significant disrepair. I chose to run for Town Council after giving public comment in May because I think we are better as a community when we respect the spaces where we come together outside our homes.
As someone who grew up cleaning graffiti off walls in Los Angeles, seeing offensive graffiti covering the screen where many of us saw iconic movies like Star Wars motivated me to show our Marin community and the next generation that we can do better.
As these artistic spaces are abandoned, we loose the gathering places that once wove together the fabric of our community. If elected to the Corte Madera Town Council, I will look to partner with local arts organizations, businesses, and town staff to bring public art and community events to Corte Madera.
Marin has a rich history of engagement with the arts and we have an opportunity in Corte Madera to support the artists that bring inspiration and beauty to our lives. The experience of creating art and interacting with public installation art brought forward within me a commitment to pass the experience onto others.
