About

The Kirschner Family

Our family is deeply rooted in Marin. My wife Margot grew up in Corte Madera and opened a maternal mental health practice a few miles from her childhood home (Marin Perinatal Therapy). Our daughter Ella is at Hall and plays the flute in the school band. Her brother Milo is at Cove and his baseball team won the Twin Cities Little League championship this year.

We love our public parks, access to hiking trails, and the vibrant community in Corte Madera.

We are thankful for the teachers, fire fighters, police officers, public employees, volunteers, and local businesses that support our community.

Milo attends Cove Elementary School (5th grade). He loves sports and hiking.
Margot is a Clinical Psychologist focused on maternal mental health.
Ella attends Hall Middle School (8th grade). She loves performing arts and volunteering at school.
Our goldendoodle Dash loves hiking Ring Mountain and greeting neighbors.
Background

Professional Life

Non-Profit Leadership

Building and supporting organizations that enrich our community has been central to my life for over 20 years. I have served as a professional, advisor, and board member for organizations ranging from political advocacy and mental health services to community arts and a local Jewish newspaper.

Political Organizing

I was deeply impacted by 9/11 and spent the early part of my career as a political activist focused on the Middle East. My experience lobbying elected officials, leading missions to Washington, and training the next generation of activists provides me a unique perspective on public service and community organizing.

Early Stage Companies

After 10 years in non-profit management, I joined a fast growth skincare start-up to lead business innovation for a sales organization of 250,000 women. For the last five years I have worked as an executive and consultant for early stage companies with a focus on strategy, product, and technology.

Real Estate Management

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, I joined the leadership team of a start-up that acquired 5,000 luxury apartments and pioneered flexible living. Since then I have worked in a variety of roles in real estate and property technology. This experience provides me a unique skillset and perspective on local housing needs.

Values

Leadership Influences

Community Service

Both my grandfathers served in the military and my father served in the US Army Reserves (3rd Calvary). I learned the skills and mindset to serve my community at a young age on the path to Eagle Scout. I believe every American has a responsibility to serve and contribute their talents to benefit the community.

Family Values

I was raised to value hard work. My mother worked two jobs for most of my childhood. After her day job in manufacturing, she worked nights as a caterer. My father was a hardware salesman. My brother and I spent most nights and summers supporting their businesses, from Home Depot to late nights in bakeries. This upbringing gave me a deep respect for the hard work it takes to succeed and raise a family.

Diversity & Inclusion

My father's parents immigrated from Russia to escape violence and persecution for being Jewish. I am deeply connected to the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam (heal the world) and aware of the challenges faced by minority groups. I'm proud to be a Jewish American and an ally for underrepresented groups.

Finding Common Ground

My mother was raised Baptist in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and my father was raised Jewish in Brooklyn. The Summer of Love in San Francisco brought them together and they raised me in Los Angeles. This mixing of cultures, traditions, and ethnicities instilled in me the importance of finding shared values.
