Over the next decade, Corte Madera is required to build 725 new housing units to meet the requirements established under the housing element passed by the Town of Corte Madera in June 2023. This has the potential to increase the population of Corte Madera by over 10% and make a permanent impact on the character of our town.
With the majority of housing opportunity sites concentrated on 10 parcels, we must be thoughtful around ways to meet our new housing requirements while also serving the interests of the wider community.
With housing prices and inflation increasing, many seniors and public employees are faced with tremendous challenges finding housing within Corte Madera. I've spoken to teachers and police officers who commute hours every day to come to our town and serve our community. This has a direct impact on their quality of life and on our ability to attract talented people to support our town.
The type of housing that will support our community for decades to come would be housing that can integrate flexible senior housing, workforce housing for local workers, and public employee designated units.
Our seniors deserve to have affordable options to remain in their community as they move through later stages in life.
Our community is stronger when we can help bridge the gap for public employees who struggle to overcome the large rent burden for working families in Marin.
During this campaign I intend to open a conversation between residents, town officials, and real estate developers to come together on a shared vision for the type of housing that meets the wide cross section of needs in our town for decades to come.
Please submit your ideas on the Contact page so I can continue to represent the widest cross section of our town's residents during these conversations about the future of housing in Corte Madera.
